Experience

I have a track record of over seven years of teaching experience in public districts, teaching all subjects for all grades, including special education and ESL/ELD. I am currently working daily as a substitute teacher for all grades and subjects at the Capistrano Unified School District in Orange County. In addition, I have tutored students on one-on-one or in small groups; assisted with homework assignments and other projects; helped with study and organizational skill, preparation of resume and cover letters, career strategies, and set up mock job interviews for high-school students. I have also taught test-taking strategies and monitored preparation for SAT and CAHSEE exams. I am very instrumental with English learners and those with low academic level in assessing problem areas, engaging them in the learning process, encouraging and motivating them to set up goals and achieve them. I have also worked as an Instructor for YMCA After School Program helping elementary and middle-school students develop social and problem-solving skills, resolve conflict, complete assigned homework and other projects, and engage in sports and various enrichment activities. I first came to this country as a youth-exchange student which helped me develop cultural sensitivity. Subsequently, I served for five years as the National Director for the AFS International/Intercultural Programs in Athens, all aspects of the national programs. I recruited and trained a nationwide volunteer organization. I monitored the selection, orientation and counseling of program participants as well as the language training of foreign students. I have traveled extensively to many countries and relate well with any age group from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach Greek to adults at the Lingual Institute in Costa Mesa, CA. I have a passion for teaching, and am confident that I can make a difference in helping you achieve your academic goals.
